Cast #2

Spring Break is upon us and Michael and Macie got a lesson in Serial Casting today with Cam and I.  It was nice having big brother and sister there to help entertain Cam.  Michael was happy to accommodate Cam with playing his Nintendo DS;)

We started with taking the cast off.  They used a razor blade to remove it (there was a tube lining inside the cast) much to Cam's relief....they didn't use a saw.  He has had a rough time with the saw in the past.

Next they asked Cam to do a few stretches to see the changes and improvements in his dorsiflextion.  Dorsiflextion is a term used to describe the bend you get when bringing your toes to your shin.  Last week he was at -13 and this week was a -7.  His goal will be at a +15.  I am not 100% on what all of these numbers mean and the specifics, but I do know that we are moving in the right direction!

Casting begins.  Bring out the video games!

As you can see, Cam's new cast has less of an angle than the first.  Each week's cast will slowly get that foot to where we need it to be so that the muscles and heal chord are fully stretched and back to normal.
